How do I figure out what length Hearing Aid Safety Aid® is right for me?
Everyone's ears are different. Figuring out which Safety Aid is right for you requires that you take a measurement. The easiest way to do this is with dental floss (believe it or not) and a ruler. Lay the ruler on the table. Hold the piece of dental floss with one hand on each end. Wrap the dental floss around your ear, starting at the top of your ear. Bring one end down the front and the other behind the back of your ear. Hold the ends where they meet under your ear lobe. Do not pull tightly as you don't want the chain to fit tightly. The length of dental floss in between your fingers is the measurement you need, Hold the dental floss next to the ruler to get the measurement, Jot that number down. Divide the answer by two. And finally, add 1/4 inch or .25 to your measurement. Write this number down - it's the answer. Hint: The extra 1/4 inch will allow for the loss of length when you create the loop.
Example: When I wrap the dental floss around my ear, it measures 5 7/8 inches. I rounded up to six inches for ease of math and for to allow for error. Divide 6 by two and you get three. Add .25 or 1/4 inch. Results: My number is 3.25. A three inch chain will be too short and pull on the hearing aid or the earring. A 3.25 inch chain may show a little, and a 3.5 inch chain is definitely going to show.
